T IS FOR TRAVEL

The Soft

Landing Kit

A few things I do differently, so trips actually feel like rest.

Begin descent

Most people plan a trip and come home needing a vacation from the vacation. This isn't a packing list. It's the handful of decisions that make a trip feel unhurried instead of like a checklist.

Part One

Before You Go

The biggest stress reducer isn't a packing list. It's deciding, before you leave, what you're not going to spend energy figuring out mid-trip.

  • Airport transfer, booked in advance. Day one isn't spent hunting for a taxi after a long flight.
  • First dinner, reserved. You're not making decisions hungry and jet-lagged.
  • One anchor activity per destination. Everything else stays open.
  • Pack the first 24 hours separately. A small bag or pouch means you're not digging through a full suitcase after a long flight.
  • Leave one day completely unplanned. It won't feel like a waste. It'll feel like the best day. Take the opportunity to get lost in a new place and find things undiscovered.
Part Two

In Transit

Making the travel day itself feel less like a hurdle.

  • Noise-canceling headphones. One of the few places I'll say spend the money.
  • A refillable water bottle, filled after security. Dehydration is doing more to your mood than you think.
  • Download everything offline before you leave the house. Maps, boarding passes, entertainment. Airport wifi is not a plan.
Part Three

On the Ground

Overplanning is its own kind of stress. The trips that feel the most restful are usually the ones with the least locked in day-to-day.

  • One must-do per day. Everything else is a suggestion, not a schedule.
  • When in doubt, pre-book the transfer. The peace of mind is worth more than the money saved.
  • Ask your hotel for one thing locals actually do. Not what's in the guidebook.
  • Build in one slow morning per stop. No alarm, no plan before 10am.
What I Actually Pack

A few things I recommend to almost every client

Not a gear list. Just what earns a spot in the bag, trip after trip.

Carry-on

Away Carry-On

The one I recommend most, holds up trip after trip and fits the overhead every time.

In Flight Entertainment

Load up your phone or e-reader with a book, audiobook, or a few podcast episodes before you go. One less screen to manage at the airport, and something worth looking forward to.
